Taping Fin Straps
One essential part of rigging your gear for technical diving is to
eliminate all "Snagglies" (bits of gear that tend to snag on your
guideline), and one of the most important such spots is the fin straps.
Since your fins are constantly moving, they're constantly trying to get
into trouble, so you want them to be as snagglie-free as possible. The
usual solution is to tape up the straps, so that loose ends and buckles
are secured and any guideline you happen to kick against will slide
smoothly past your fin without snagging.
However, the above explanation still doesn't completely explain the set
of fins pictured here.
